INTERNATIONAL QUILT DAY!!!

First of all, many, many thanks to Loose Threads for organizing this wonderful day!!!  Huge thanks go to Marijke, Moishe and Joyce for all their hard work.  Seems everybody contributed - there were goodies and sweets  to keep us all fully energized throughout the day!  People brought non-perishable food for the local food bank.

When the guests arrived, they drew numbers from a bag to tell them which table to sit at, which meant that people from different guilds sat together.  A great way to meet and mingle!  It was fun to meet new people and reacquaint with familiar faces.

We sure look busy!!!!

Barbara Sweeney was the guest speaker and was fabulously interesting.  Her quilts (which were many) were very provocative and I'm sure got many people thinking and pondering.

There was also amazing fabric for sale at ridiculously low prices.  Everyone sure participated in that!  Everyone scrambled to get more - just what we all need - MORE!!!

I took this picture in one split second when the table wasn't packed with people snatching up those juicy little morsels.  I'm sure everyone came away with that one choice piece they just had to have!!!

And finally, a really  fun game.  I don't know what it was called, but let's say - LEFT, RIGHT, CENTER.  One lucky person ended up with a huge pile of fat quarters!!!  Great fun!!!!

Once again a huge 'thank you' to Loose Threads for organizing this day for all of us every year.  It sure is appreciated!!!  The day was great fun - full of new faces, new ideas, sharing patterns, web sites, etc. Anybody that missed this day, should set this date aside for next year.  I know I speak on behalf of all the West End Quilters who were there - a big THANK YOU!!!

Thanks Flora and Debby!!!

Hi Flora and Debby:

Many, many thanks for a wonderful day yesterday!!! It was super to get together with quilters from the other guilds - it's not often we have that opportunity - to see old friends and meet new ones.

The goody bags and door prizes were great. I sure came home with a bunch of exciting stuff!! And, certainly no one could complain about being hungry - so much food!!

Thanks again to you two, and Loose Thread for hosting this event.

Loose Threads Quilt Guild has been very busy - we have had:
-A Bee Night where we learned how to make place mats. Thank you to Gloria and Ronit for all their hard work in making the kits for us and assembling the beautifully wrapped packages of placemats and pillowcases for residents at Maison Shalom. These packages were donated to a member of the executive of Maison Shalom at our Holiday dinner. We were priveleged to view a video about the residents and it was a very moving experience for those of us at the meeting. It was wonderful to see photos of the residents receiving their gifts at their Chanukah party. This year the monies we collected went to JWIC, and they were very appreciative of our donation. The non perishable food items were picked up by MADA. Thanks to all of our members for their participation in our Community works.
-We had demo by me on Trapunto by hand, by Gloria on Celtic quilting, and by me on needleturn applique.
-We had a Bee Night where we "played" with our Bingo game blocks and cut them down to size to assemble into a quilt for Quilts of Valor, an organization that collects for, and distributes quilts to, returning military personnel. The blue sashing fabric offsets the scrappy blocks beautifully.
The rest of this year looks like it is filled with some great activities!! We will be having a Pizza Dinner . During this meeting we will be discussing fabric postcards, and we will be seeing some from members who have received and made these little works of art. A full day workshop on fabric PC's will follow on Feb 4, at the ACC.
We have a meeting planned entitled "Gab Fest" - here we will share tips, horror stories, learn how to make bias stems, ruched flowers, and give and receive help with UFO's.
On March 17 it is IQD, a day filled with lots of fun, friendship, and food. Participants will share more than just quilting, I am sure.
May 24-27/12 is CQQ's Salon 2012. There are some incredible teachers giving fabulous workshops. Here is a link to the workshops being offered:

Stay warm and safe.

Hi Everyone:

Well, as many of you know yesterday was the AGM of the CQQ. It was a great day for it, rainy, windy and cool - great to be indoors brainstorming about various quilt, etc. ideas!! Lachute did a wonderful job, coffee and tea hot and the sweets, delicious and plentiful. Also four vendors - and everyone had plenty of time and plenty of choices to spend their money. Seems most of the positions on the Executive were filled, although it was a tough sell. Good for Sharon for putting up her hand - it sure was appreciated, not only by the Executive, but by the members at large.

Above is a picture of Sharon and fellow members of Loose Threads showing off their works of art. The class was given by Debbie Kimball, appliquer extraordinaire, and juding by the quilts, an excellent teacher. The pattern, the seven species, very important in Judaism, features wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates and olives. It was made by Debbie especially for this group.

Bravo ladies, they look beautiful!
