Hi Everyone:

Well, as many of you know yesterday was the AGM of the CQQ. It was a great day for it, rainy, windy and cool - great to be indoors brainstorming about various quilt, etc. ideas!! Lachute did a wonderful job, coffee and tea hot and the sweets, delicious and plentiful. Also four vendors - and everyone had plenty of time and plenty of choices to spend their money. Seems most of the positions on the Executive were filled, although it was a tough sell. Good for Sharon for putting up her hand - it sure was appreciated, not only by the Executive, but by the members at large.

Above is a picture of Sharon and fellow members of Loose Threads showing off their works of art. The class was given by Debbie Kimball, appliquer extraordinaire, and juding by the quilts, an excellent teacher. The pattern, the seven species, very important in Judaism, features wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates and olives. It was made by Debbie especially for this group.

Bravo ladies, they look beautiful!

Many, many thanks to Randi and Vikki for a great day of quilting on Saturday!! There was so much to keep us busy what with the great talk by Wendy, the fabric and wool that was available and of course, the super snacks. Who could ask for anything more? Well, we got more - loot bags that were full of goodies!! It was really a fun day! Thanks again from the WEQ.

International Quilting Day 2011

Well, today saw a group of approximately 35 quilters get together for a wonderful day of quilting, sewing, learning, comaraderie, and snacking :-)
Today was International Quilting Day and Loose Threads Quilt Guild did a great job of hosting this event for another successful year. The 2 co-chairs, Randi and Vikki, did a great job of lining up a guest speaker and putting together great loot bags for each of the participants, and 6 lucky people won a raffle basket!! Also, everyone brought non-perishable food items for donation to MADA.
The guest speaker was Wendy Foster, a quilter from Ottawa. Wendy gave a talk about different threads for our sewing machines and how to counteract some of the challenges we face using specialty threads. She then showed a great trunk show of such varied techniques in her quilting and sewing repertoire. As well, Wendy sells threads and had a veritable rainbow of colors to choose from in the various types of threads she sells.
It was a wonderful day enjoyed by all of us in attendance.

The elements

Well, it looks like Mother Nature was not on the side of the Tuesday quilters...........what was forecast as a mini tempete turned into a full blown ( pardon the pun) storm - can anyone say UGH????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully, those who were planning on coming to the chalet today are working on their projects at home.
Looking forward to seeing everyone the next time.
Have happy and safe holidays.

Quilting the Quilt

Tonight Loose Threads Quilt Guild hosted several members from West End Quilters at our meeting. It is always a pleasure to see our quilting friends.
We had a guest speaker, Phyllis Moody, come to talk about `Quilting the Quilt`. It was an informative evening about longarm quilting. Phyllis brought several of her quilts and samples of quilting patterns. She discussed choosing the pattern for the quilt and how she does that. Now to try and get backs done for all the tops I have made :-)
At this time, on behalf of Loose Threads, I would like to wish all the Co-Op Quilters a very happy holiday season.
Looking forward to sharing more quilting times with you.
