An invitation from the Westmount Quilters

Hi everyone. Let's call today the official inauguration of the new blog "The Westmount Quilter' Chronicle". I will like to extend an invitation to you and your guild members for a visit and many happy returns.

It is not Christmas yet, but what you are looking at is the CQQ X'mas tree all dressed up for the 2008 holiday season at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Westmount Quilters has enjoyed decorating the tree on behave of CQQ for the last few years and we would like to share the fun. I like to encourage another of our co-operative group of guilds to take over for a little while. I asked for volunteers in the last CQQ Journal, but so far have not gotten any response. Do give it serious consideration, please.

This is what is involved. The decorations belong to CQQ and are donated by members. They may need refreshing from time to time. They come in a storage box. Around October time frame, MMFA Volunteer group that look after this event will send out an invitation to the person responsible in the community group (i.e. me for CQQ for the past few years) with the dates for set up and take down. I sent them a fax back saying that we will do it again.

We turn up (2 or 3 of us) on the set up day, usually mid-November. All the naked trees will be there ready and one of them has CQQ's name on it. We spend an hour or so dressing the tree and another hour or so gawking at what everybody else do to their trees, and enjoy the nicely spread lunch table, then go home.

The trees will be on display until the first week on January. Take down is an easy job, half an hour max, more fun with 2 people, no food. They also give you a nice photo of it as souvenir. You go home with all the decorations and store it for the next year. If you are ambitious, you are welcome to do more. We contributed a tree skirt 2 years ago so it will be available for future use.

Why not give it a try?

Let's share our talents and resources and have fun together.

As this blog is the culmination of the efforts during the last few months to get our four quilting guilds to work together, it marks a new beginning. Let's hope it will become the perfect medium for our cooperation and for our members to share and have more fun with our quilting passion.

Thank you Allison for setting this up.
