congratulations to Roz Agulnik

This evening, Roz Agulnik was honored at the Annual Cote St. Luc Volunteer Award dinner with the Socio-Cultural Award for her "exceptional contribution to the recreation socio-cultural program". As a co-president and valued member of the guild, Roz is a tireless and commited worker for Loose Threads. Roz is always eager to do what needs to be done and is willing to help , and always with a smile.
As well as wishing her a hearty Mazel Tov, we thank her for all she does for our guild.
Congratulations to Johanne and her CQQ group for a wonderful meeting yesterday! And thanks also to Quilte Montreal for all their preparation, hard work, great sweets table, etc. A huge job well done. Congratulations to all. We had 9 of our members there yesterday and we all had a lot of fun!! Personally, it was the first time I was able to attend, and it sure won't be my last.

Thanks again to all who made this happen.

CQQ AGM

Today was the CQQ AGM.......it was hosted by Cuilte Montreal and there was a wonderful turnout - more than 160 quilters from all over Quebec. There was a beautiful Show & Tell, great raffle prizes, people worked on making blocks for next year's raffle quilt, yummy snacks provided by CM members, and there were several vendors.
There was info and early registration for the Salon 2010 - classes look really good!!!!
It was a wonderful day.
Congratulations and continued success to the executive of CQQ. Great job!

Sorry - that tidbit of information about Elaine came from Sharon!
So glad to hear from Shemie that Elaine Quehl is a great teacher! A couple of us from WEQ are going to Kingston beginning of November to take a class from Elaine. It's one of a group of weekend workshops given by Fibreworks Kingston. Also there are some great workshops coming to Cornwall - check out www.quilterspleasureweekend.com.

New links

I've added a link to a new blog that I heard about: "365 days of machine quilting".... lots of inspiration for those who like an alternative to quilting by hand.

I've also added a couple of teacher links : Elaine Quehl (recently mentioned by Sharon) and Linda Palaisy (who will be giving a workshop at the West End Guild in the spring...details to follow).

FWIW, the blog list is automatically sorted with the most recently updated at the top of the list.

This evening Loose Threads Quilt Guild hosted some of the members from West End Quilters at our meeting. Stephanie and Margaret from Quilte Classique gave a wonderful presentation. Stephanie spoke about new fabric lines and notions and how she chooses what to carry in the shop. They brought fabric, patterns and kits to sell and told us all about their new class schedule and showed samples of the projects. Margaret gave a great demo on how to use the Angler tool for making 1/2 square triangles easily. FYI, Quilte Classique is having a 40% off sale!!!!!!!!!!!
It was fun to meet other quilters from our area and we look forward to meeting again soon.

fabric dyeing

Hi all
I had the opportunity to go to Ottawa last week to take a fabric dyeing workshop given by Elaine Quehl. The class took place in the garden of The Country Quilter Quilt Shop in Richmond........lots of beautiful fabrics and books and patterns and notions!
The class was wonderful (except I got stung by a wasp - ouch!!!!!!!!). I came home with 16 sumptuously colored fqs.........can't wait to use them in something special.
If you have the chance to take any class with Elaine - JUMP at it! She is a really wonderful teacher.
Looking forward to hearing from other co-op quilters here!!

Sign in with your email the same way you do when you want to post.
Click on the "layout" tab. You will now see the sidebar items in the page formatting window.
Click on "[edit]" beside the item that you want to modify(tonight I clicked on Blogs We like to Follow). This will open a new window.
Then click on "add to list" and insert the URL of the blog/webpage that you want to add to the list (tonight I added the URL for the Westmount Guild).

Hi everyone at Loose Threads. Have no idea how I got here, but here I am. Thanks so much for the invitation to your day workshop. It was great to meet a few more quilters!

Blogs and more blogs

Hi everyone,

It's been a while now that we have had a blog site for West End Quilters but there has not been much activity on it. That should be changing with the inspiration of this group blog. I've added a link to the sidebar.

As for the other blogs that I listed there:

Chary Sprouts is Jane Davila's blog. She does some amazing art quilts and it's fun following along to see her inspirations and WIPs.

Jane Brocket is not just a quilter but is involved in many of the domestic arts - quilting, knitting, cooking gardening. I first learned of her when a friend lent me her book: The Gentle Art of Domesticity. I highly recommend the book; it's a relaxed read with beautiful photos (taken by Jane).

Journey of a Quilter is one of the newest blogs that I have found. It was mentioned on a quilting newsgroup that I read and follows the various projects that Karen is working on.

If you have other blogs or interesting web lists please add to the list!!

Tuesday quilting

Today, Sept 8, was the first of our monthly Tuesday get togethers at Chalet 1.....it is the regular meeting place for our Loose Threads meetings. Hopefully, we will continue to meet once a month, on Tuesday, to sew and chat, or read, or knit, or just be!
Today we were 6..........Roz A, Dena, Catherine, Diana, and me from Loose Threads, and Sandra Jones from West End Quilters. It was great! There was much helping each other out and sharing and learning going on - isn't that what quilting is all about??
As soon as Roz has confirmation from the city, we will post the dates for future Tuesday get togethers.

blogging

My very first blog experience! It is so exciting to see our Co-Op Quilters up and running. Hopefully, this will be the start of a wonderful collaboration of our 4 west-end guilds. Now that the quilting year has re-started, hopefully there will be others who check us out. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend full of family and quilting. Take care, Roz (also a co-president of Loose Threads Quilt Guild)

An invitation from the Westmount Quilters

Hi everyone. Let's call today the official inauguration of the new blog "The Westmount Quilter' Chronicle". I will like to extend an invitation to you and your guild members for a visit and many happy returns.

It is not Christmas yet, but what you are looking at is the CQQ X'mas tree all dressed up for the 2008 holiday season at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Westmount Quilters has enjoyed decorating the tree on behave of CQQ for the last few years and we would like to share the fun. I like to encourage another of our co-operative group of guilds to take over for a little while. I asked for volunteers in the last CQQ Journal, but so far have not gotten any response. Do give it serious consideration, please.

This is what is involved. The decorations belong to CQQ and are donated by members. They may need refreshing from time to time. They come in a storage box. Around October time frame, MMFA Volunteer group that look after this event will send out an invitation to the person responsible in the community group (i.e. me for CQQ for the past few years) with the dates for set up and take down. I sent them a fax back saying that we will do it again.

We turn up (2 or 3 of us) on the set up day, usually mid-November. All the naked trees will be there ready and one of them has CQQ's name on it. We spend an hour or so dressing the tree and another hour or so gawking at what everybody else do to their trees, and enjoy the nicely spread lunch table, then go home.

The trees will be on display until the first week on January. Take down is an easy job, half an hour max, more fun with 2 people, no food. They also give you a nice photo of it as souvenir. You go home with all the decorations and store it for the next year. If you are ambitious, you are welcome to do more. We contributed a tree skirt 2 years ago so it will be available for future use.

Why not give it a try?

Let's share our talents and resources and have fun together.

As this blog is the culmination of the efforts during the last few months to get our four quilting guilds to work together, it marks a new beginning. Let's hope it will become the perfect medium for our cooperation and for our members to share and have more fun with our quilting passion.

Thank you Allison for setting this up.
