The elements

Well, it looks like Mother Nature was not on the side of the Tuesday quilters...........what was forecast as a mini tempete turned into a full blown ( pardon the pun) storm - can anyone say UGH????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully, those who were planning on coming to the chalet today are working on their projects at home.
Looking forward to seeing everyone the next time.
Have happy and safe holidays.

Quilting the Quilt

Tonight Loose Threads Quilt Guild hosted several members from West End Quilters at our meeting. It is always a pleasure to see our quilting friends.
We had a guest speaker, Phyllis Moody, come to talk about `Quilting the Quilt`. It was an informative evening about longarm quilting. Phyllis brought several of her quilts and samples of quilting patterns. She discussed choosing the pattern for the quilt and how she does that. Now to try and get backs done for all the tops I have made :-)
At this time, on behalf of Loose Threads, I would like to wish all the Co-Op Quilters a very happy holiday season.
Looking forward to sharing more quilting times with you.

Saturday's Workshop with Linda Palaisy.

It was great day yesterday with Linda. I think we were all pretty well drained by the time the class ended. So much information, so many techniques, and usable ones!!! We finished the day with a great meal at Al Dente's. Pictures to come when I can figure out how to do it, or get them to France who DOES know how to do it!

A HUGE thank you to Allison! Allison, you did a great job!!! Linda was a wonderful choice. All the food kept us full and energized and aside from blowing a few fuses to start, the day went wonderfully well.

It was really good to see friends we hadn't seen in a while - Gaetane (your quilt is beautiful!), Kathleen and Linda Power. Great to meet new quilters Roz, Joyce, Dena, Lynn, Emily from Loose Threads, and Cuilte Montreal.I think the day was a huge success, really productive, and seemed like everyone had a good time.

Thanks again Allison!! You're a peach!

Hi Everyone:

Thought this might be of interest:

In celebration of International Women's Day, Artistri presents the exhibition Beyond the silk road: Glimpses of contemporary textiles in Southeast Asia from March 7 to March 21. It will feature14 contemporary interpretations of the art of silk weaving by Cambodian and Laotian craftswomen. Suzanne Chabot, Director of the Museum of Costumes and Textiles of Quebec will inaugurate the exhibition at the official opening March 9 at 6 pm.

Since cloth-making became an important human activity some 20000 years ago, it has been women's work. Once considered an important skill for women, the significance of textile-creation diminished largely in connection with the industrial revolution, when what had once been considered a skilled craft became a task which could be accomplished by a machine. However, the fortunes of women and textiles continue to be inextricably bound together in much of the developing world, where the ability to weave is one of the most useful ones a woman can have. Nowhere is this more true than in places like Cambodia and Laos, where silk weaving is experiencing a revival after decades of civil strife and political antagonism, and women find themselves at the forefront not only of a self-conscious effort to preserve their cultural heritage, but also of a revival which represents a potentially significant revenue stream.

The vernissage of Beyond the silk road: Glimpses of contemporary textiles in Southeast Asia will take place at a 5 à 7 Tuesday March 9 at Artistri Atelier-Boutique—5319 Park Avenue, Montreal. All are welcome.
